To combat climate change, all parts of society need to play a role. Despite the long history of climate activism, the sports world has been slow to engage in the climate debate. Even within Sport for Development, the discussion about mitigation of climate change is relatively new. Sports organizations and sports leaders lack knowledge of both the issue and of how best to move the discussion forward within the sports world. With billions of supporters, football has a unique platform to engage a wide audience on climate mitigation and with the right tools, it can not only educate the supporters but also influence their behavior.
In this project, Spirit of Football, will deliver workshops and an advocacy campaign all over the world that will stimulate discussion about climate change and support people and organisations to take concrete climate action.
The project is supported with SEK 2 940 000.

The project tackles mitigation of climate change through sports. It aligns well with our work on Sport for Development.
