The central African region is characterized by low levels of women’s participation in public institutions and decision-making, and by growing political and social instability, fuelled by ready access to weapons. The situation is specifically acute in Cameroon. Women are still, to a large extent, excluded from formal peace and security processes. Elections are scheduled to take place in October 2018, and it is therefore crucial to start mobilizing and set up structures for electoral conflict preventive measures.
In this project, The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WLPF) aims to increase women’s participation in peacebuilding and political processes in Cameroon, and to strengthen the women’s rights movement by building capacity and structures for sustainable conflict prevention and peacebuilding work. The method used in the project is called Women’s Situation Room (WSR).
