Focus area
The conflict in the DRC has been characterized by serious abuse of the civilian population and women have been particularly targeted. Sexual violence is part of the warfare and, according to UN estimates, two out of three Congolese women will be subjected to violence during their lifetime.
Many of those who have fallen victim to sexual violence are also met with distancing. Denis Mukweges Foundation has a long tradition of working to improve the livelihood of the victims. At the Panzi Hospital in DRC, medical and psychological care has been successfully combined with legal support and help to create the conditions for their own livelihood.
The project is supported with 5 000 000 SEK.
