Focus area
Northern Uganda has experienced civil war that lasted for 22 years. It has led to millions of people fleeing their homes and many children being orphaned or recruited as child-soldiers. Today, northern Uganda is also home to 800,000 refugees fleeing the civil war in South Sudan. In short, it is a region that needs stability, economic growth, and hopes for the future.
In this project, The Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative will promote entrepreneurship and social innovation in the Acholi Sub-region as well as in the refugee settlements in Kiryandongo. The organization has previous experience of running successful Youth Peacemakers Network in the region, and they tend to further develop it with this initiative. Entrepreneurial work has been proven to be effective; and is also in demand in the region.
The project is supported with 3 950 000 SEK
