Biosfärområde Blekinge Arkipelag

The Baltic Sea, including the ecosystem of the Blekinge Archipelago Biosphere Reserve, is affected by both global and regional challenges. However, different sectors of society often operate without knowledge of each other, and there is a lack of understanding of how ecological, social, and economic components are interconnected and affect one another.

In this project, the Blekinge Archipelago Biosphere Reserve aims to create a Baltic Health Index for the Blekinge Archipelago, that serves as a common starting point for various initiatives aimed at creating a sustainable society.

The project is supported with 1 800 000 SEK.

The project is part of the The Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation’s initiative “Coastal Ecosystems in Sweden”, which aims to contribute to the biodiversity of coastal ecosystems and their ability to protect against the negative effects of climate change along the coasts.

Vad händer i projektet?

• – Installation av mätstationer för att samla in data,
• – Utbildning i att lägga in data i Baltic Health Index,
• – Framtagning av ett regionalt Baltic Health Index för Blekinge Arkipelag med 7-12 mätkategorier,
• – Synliggörande av indexets resultat,
• – Tillgängliggörande och utvärdering av olika aktörers verksamhet och åtgärder
• – Spridning av information om det regionala indexet till andra biosfärområden runt Östersjön.

Varför fick projektet stöd?

Projektet bidrar till kustnära ekosystemens artrikedom och förmåga att skydda mot klimatförändringarnas negativa effekter längs kusterna genom att minska mänsklig negativ påverkan.
