The hype around AI’s potential power, and the couching of its value in starkly economic, national, and competitive terms, has fueled a global arms race to invest in related technologies, despite the many repeated warnings and clear evidence, that the indiscriminate use of AI poses significant risks to human rights, including freedom of expression, as well as core democratic values and governance structures.

In this project, Access Now wants to emphasize that we are at a tipping point with respect to AI, human rights, and democracy. The activities will significantly expand and bridge various aspects of their foundational work on AI and automation into a unique, holistic, and three-pronged project that comprehensively addresses critical opportunities for influencing and strengthening EU policies and practices on AI, facial recognition, and automation.

The project is supported with SEK 2 860 000.

What does the project deliver?

Awareness-raising activities that Access Now will carry out together with decision-makers and other important actors in the EU. They can be, for example, roundtables or workshops. Campaigns will also be produced to increase the understanding of Al among the general public, especially in Europe.
