Textile workers in countries such as Bangladesh, India, China, and Turkey often work in hazardous environments, under difficult working conditions, and with poor wages. Bangladesh is the world’s third largest clothing exporter, and many major Swedish clothing brands have large production within the country. Söndrebaljsoperan’s project is based on the opera, The Weave, which examines women’s working conditions in connection with textile production. In addition to the performance of the opera in Bangladesh and Sweden, a number of parallel activities will be organized, including discussions about textile workers rights.
