Companies can play a negative role in war-torn countries as there are economic incentives to ignore social responsibility. Accountability mechanisms are ineffective, and companies are extremely rarely brought to justice for international crimes. Lundin Energy is a Swedish oil company whose business leaders are suspected of involvement in war crimes in South Sudan. The commencement of the trial of Lundin Energy opens a window to realize the trial’s global, transformative potential to strengthen corporate social responsibility moving forward. Creating synergies between activities that take place in different countries is important for international lobbying and advocacy to be successful.
In this project, PAX- Stichting Vredesbeweging Pax Nederland wants to address accountability of companies that contribute to violence and gross human rights violations.
The project is supported with SEK 2 840 000.
