Around the world, girls and women face various barriers linked to their menstrual cycle and their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The challenges are great for low- and middle-income countries, and for people living in vulnerable conditions. Several studies indicate that many students miss school during their menstrual cycle, which leads to negative psychosocial effects. Stigma and myths about menstruation often portray girls as inferior to boys and rationalizes different types of exclusion and oppression, making it important to address social aspects and norms. In Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan, sex education in schools is either substandard or completely absent, leading to poor knowledge of how the body works. SRHR is crucial to being able to make informed decisions over one’s life and one’s body.
In this project, Wise Economy Global Association seeks to improve the knowledge and awareness of SRHR, which will help reduce the taboo, shame, and stigma surrounding menstruation.
The project is supported with SEK 2 350 000.
